❤ YOU WILL ENJOY...
The Venice of the North at Christmas, from November 20, 2026, to January 3, 2027: from €125.00
The centre of Bruges is magical all year round, but even more so at Christmas time. With thousands of lights and the smell of waffles and mulled wine, the festive atmosphere is at its best.
There are two Christmas markets in Bruges. The biggest is on the Grand Place, with its many wooden chalets. This is where we offer you a glass of champagne and a box of Belgian chocolates.
You can then move on to the second market, just a hundred metres away on Simon Stevin Square: two rows of stalls selling local produce between decorated trees, and a life-size nativity scene.

What to do in Bruges in one day?
▼ CloseDeparture from our Louvre agency at 7:15am. Arrival in Bruges mid-morning, after about 3 hours on the road and a rest stop.
The Markt and the Belfry
The heart of the city: the medieval belfry, the guild houses, and Burg Square with the Basilica of the Holy Blood just steps away.
The canals by boat
Bruges from the water: bridges overhead, gabled houses on each side, and the Rozenhoedkaai, the most photographed spot in town.
Beguinage and Lake of Love
A quiet, UNESCO-listed walled community a few minutes from the busy streets, right next to the swans of the Lake of Love.
The Markt (Market Square) and orientation walk
▼ Read moreThe Markt is the center of everything. The medieval belfry rises above it, surrounded by guild houses that have barely changed in 600 years. Your guide starts here, then takes you past Burg Square, the Basilica of the Holy Blood and the canals.
Not a lecture, but a real orientation that makes the rest of the day make sense.
The canal cruise and the Rozenhoedkaai
▼ Read moreThis is the moment most travelers talk about afterward. The boat glides under bridges and past gabled houses: Bruges from the water is a completely different experience than Bruges on foot. Do both.
Don't miss the Rozenhoedkaai, where two canals meet and the medieval skyline reflects in the water.
The Beguinage (Begijnhof) and the chocolate shops
▼ Read moreThe Beguinage is a walled, UNESCO-listed community just outside the main crowds. Quieter, more contemplative, and well worth the 10-minute walk.
Insider tip: the best chocolate and waffle shops are on the streets around the Markt, not directly on it. Your guide will point you in the right direction.
Free time in Bruges: best places to eat, explore and enjoy
▼ Read moreA few hours of free time in Bruges goes a long way when you know where to look.
What to eat in Bruges?
▼ Read moreBelgian fries are thicker and double-fried, served in a paper cone with your choice of sauce. Get them from a local frituur.
Waffles: Brussels waffles are light and rectangular; Liège-style waffles are denser, chewier and caramelized with pearl sugar.
Belgian chocolate: several excellent chocolatiers are within a 10-minute walk of the Markt.
Belgian beer: a local Trappist or a sour Flemish ale on a café terrace is part of the experience.
How to make the most of your free time?
▼ Read moreGet away from the Markt after lunch. The back streets and quieter canals are where Bruges really lives: lace shops, craft boutiques, small squares. The city is small enough that you won't get lost.
Is Bruges worth a day trip from Paris?
▼ Read moreYes. Bruges, the "Venice of the North", is one of those rare cities that earns its reputation. Its medieval center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with intact architecture, cobbled streets and picturesque canals.
Bruges is also compact: the entire historic center is walkable. You don't need three days to see the best of it. One well-organized day, with a guide who knows where to go and what to skip, is enough to enjoy it without feeling rushed.
Paris to Bruges by train or guided day trip: which is best?
▼ Read moreVisiting Bruges from Paris in one day is absolutely doable, but only if the day is well organized. Here are your two options.
By train on your own
- Two bookings: Paris to Brussels, then Brussels to Bruges
- A delay can eat into your only day
- No guide, no canal cruise included
- Fine if you have two or three days
With our guided day trip
- One booking, one meeting point across from the Louvre
- Guide and canal cruise included
- Free time that's actually free: nothing left to organize
- Ideal for a one-day trip from Paris
