THE PROGRAMME OF YOUR VISIT
THE VISIT OF THE CASTLE OF VERSAILLES
Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for 30 years, the Château de Versailles was the residence of the French kings Louis XIV, Louis XV and Louis XVI and their court from 1682 until the French Revolution in 1789. You will discover the magnificent Palace of Versailles in the company of your guide: its baroque architecture, its objets d'art, its sumptuous decorations, as well as its furniture made by the greatest craftsmen of the time.
You will have access to the most famous rooms of the Château: The King's Great Apartment with its 7 salons, all decorated on the theme of a god (the salon of Apollo, Mars, Mercury, Venus, etc.), the Queen's Apartments arranged symmetrically to those of the King, with the Coronation Hall and the Queen's bedroom, occupied in particular by Marie-Antoinette. You will be amazed by the splendid Hall of Mirrors, a place for receptions and parades designed by the famous architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart. 73m long and designed to dazzle visitors to the Sun King Louis XIV, it is lit by 17 windows and 350 mirrors and opens onto the splendid gardens of the Palace.
LUNCH IN THE PARK OF VERSAILLES (optional)
Lunch at your own expense.
We can also book a lunch at Little Venice for you.
Set in a royal environment, in the heart of the park of the Palace of Versailles, this charming restaurant will welcome you in a listed setting, a haven of peace and away from the crowds. You will enjoy simple, traditional cuisine of high quality and simplicity. On sunny days, the shaded terrace, surrounded by roses, will transport you for a meal in an elegant and refined environment.
THE GARDENS OF VERSAILLES
After your visit to the Château, your guide will show you the sumptuous formal gardens designed by Le Nôtre ...
An invitation to take a stroll, the majestic park stretches out on either side of the Grand Canal. Along the paths, you will discover a marvellous succession of marble statues, fountains, ponds, flowerbeds and groves. While strolling, you will admire the water beds, the Orangery and its exotic trees as well as the Neptune and Apollo basins.
On the days of the Grandes Eaux Musicales, the fountains come alive ... an enchanting show to the sound of baroque music (weekends and public holidays).
DOMAINE DE MARIE-ANTOINETTE
Our guide will accompany you to the Domaine Trianon and the Hameau de la Reine Marie Antoinette, an intimate and preserved place with bucolic charm situated away from the park.
Let yourself be surprised by this haven of peace, where Queen Marie-Antoinette lived!
Far from the splendour of the Château, the Domaine de Marie-Antoinette is made up of the Petit Trianon and the Hameau. Timeless, a place for receptions and walks, it exalts the imagination with its bucolic layouts and rural architecture.
As for the Grand Trianon, it allowed King Louis XIV to escape from the court and preserve his love affairs there. It gives an impression of intimacy and refinement. The palace is inspired by Italian architecture and invites to poetry and strolling.
After this guided tour (approx. 1 hour), you can continue your visit to the Queen's Hamlet at your leisure.
