Lido 2 opens a new page of its history. Champs-Elysées' cabaret presented its last dinner-show this summer. Now, under the artistic direction of Jean-Luc Choplin, the former director of Châtelet Theater, it has become a place dedicated to musicals. It reopens with a new Cabaret production directed by Robert Carsen.
Cabaret, the famous musical, written by Joe Masteroff libretto, Fred Ebb lyrics, and John Kander music. The staging was entrusted by Robert Carsen, who had successfully presented Singin' in the Rain and My Fair Lady at Châtelet Theatre. This will be the first time that this cult musical will be performing in Paris in original English version with subtitles.
Created in Boadway in 1966, Cabaret was born in a complicated economic context for New York theaters, with constantly declining revenues. Thanks to the relentlessness work of producer Harold Prince, composer John Kander and lyricist Fred Ebb, Cabaret remains on display for more than 3 years and 1165 performances, becoming one of the most profitable "musicals" in history.
Cabaret is the story of Clifford Bradshaw, a young American writer who, during a trip to Berlin in the early 1930s, fell in love with Sally Bowles. Leader of the Kit Kat Klub, the latter tries to make viewers forget the troubled times ahead, but he dreams of becoming a star.
Quickly, Clifford and Sally will see their convictions, desires and the political context undermine their love story. Come and discover at Lido 2 Paris, for the first time in Paris, this musical in its original version!
